When Pran had turned down Filmfare
Many times questions arise regarding the nomination of awards in the film industry. Akshay Kumar had even said in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ that it is already known who is going to get which award. This is not a new trend, but there have been allegations of it happening since long ago. Once Bollywood’s veteran actor Pran got very angry with this and he refused to accept the award like Filmfare.
This is in the year 1972 and this year two films were very much dominated. One film was Beimaan and the other was Pakeezah. Pran was seen in the role of a police inspector in Beimaan and Manoj Kumar was in the lead role. According to the report of ‘The Hindu’, Manoj Kumar had worked in many hit films even before this. But his character in this was different. This was the reason that most of the awards that year were the setbacks of this film.
Pran was unhappy with the selection committee: Pran’s name was also announced for the Filmfare Award, but he did not go to receive the award. Actually Pran Sahab was upset with the selection committee of Filmfare. He felt that the selection committee was biased in giving the award. According to Pran Saheb, the Filmfare Award for Best Composer should have been given to the music composer Ghulam Mohammad, who composed the film Pakeezah. But this award was given to Shankar-Jaikishan for the music of the film Beimaan.
Let me tell you, the film Beiman was released in the year 1972. Apart from Manoj Kumar, Prem Chopra, Prem Nath, Rakhi Gulzar were in this film. The film was directed by Sohan Lal Kanwar. The film was one of the biggest hits of that time. At the same time, talking about Pran Saheb, he had gained a lot of popularity in the negative role as well. He was born in the year 1920 in Old Delhi. He had received the Filmfare Award for acting 3 times. Pran once said that his family did not want him to pursue a career in acting.
